Bios:

Steve Jackson is the Director of Washington, DC Programs for Washington University in St. Louis.   Steve has more than twenty years’ experience working with students to maximize their learning – in both courses and internships -- while they spend summers or semesters in Washington, DC.  He has taught, published, and consulted widely on the American policy process, on international political economy,  and on methods of research in social scientific and historical research.   Prior to joining Washington University as the founding Director of Washington, DC Programs, he spent several years on the faculty of Cornell University.  He received his AB from Stanford University, his M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, and his Ph.D. from Yale University.

Maud Essen founded the 500-member Internet-based St. Louis Renewable Energy Club in 2004 to help people in the St. Louis region learn safe, sustainable ways to make biodiesel out of recycled vegetable oil. As a result of driving solely on her own B100, Maud hasn't fueled one of her vehicles at a gas station since 2005...and has reduced her personal transportation fuel needs to below 300 gallons per year! Currently Maud is working step by step to reduce her home energy consumption by 50%. That's because her goal over time is to generate all the energy it takes to live in a 2500 square foot historic residence in the City by renewable means, through the use of geothermal, solar thermal, and power generation by solar PV, wind, and recycled vegetable oil-fired diesel.
