IL&FS has established an endowed fund (IL&FS Endowed Fund for MAGEEP Visiting Scholars) at Washington University in St. Louis (WUStl) to create a Visiting Scholars Program.  Visiting Scholars will be from MAGEEP Universities (see http://mageep.wustl.edu ) and IL&FS Group of companies and will spend about 3 months to work on a project related to Energy, Environment and Sustainability at Washington University under the direction of faculty from WUStL and personnel from IL&FS.  The students will be involved in research and education related to energy, environment and sustainability, and continue work on return to the home institution.  Travel expenses to and from St. Louis, and living expenses in St. Louis will be covered through a stipend.

A parallel program will select students from any MAGEEP University to spend time at IL&FS India through a paid Internship program working on Energy, Environmental and Sustainability Projects.

Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services  Ltd.  (IL&FS, http://www.ilfsindia.com ), is India’s leading  Infrastructure Development  & Financing  Institution.  Over the past 20 years, IL&FS has actively engaged with   Central   and   State Governments, Private Sector Companies and Communities, to develop and finance infrastructure projects on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis.  Across  a range  of  sectors,  such as Surface Transport, Water  and Waste-water,  Energy,  Telecom,  Environment, E-Governance, Education,  IL&FS  has  been  able  to  establish  replicable models of  private sector ingenuity  harnessed for  public  purposes.  This work has also contributed to the development of the policy environment in the country to support such initiatives.

Since  the  mid  1990’s,  IL&FS  has  been  governed  under a comprehensive Environment   and Social  Policy Framework  (ESPF)  that  underscores mainstreaming  sustainability.  More  recently,  the  Board of Directors of IL&FS approved  the  establishment  of  the  IL&FS  Academy  for  Applied Development  (IAAD).   It is intended that IAAD serve as a vehicle to scale sustainability initiatives that have passed the proof of concept stage and through this process stimulate innovation and leadership.

The McDonnell Academy Global Energy and Environmental Partnership (MAGEEP, http://mageep.wustl.edu ) is a network of 28 Universities under the auspices of the McDonnell International Scholars Academy that is involved in research, education and operations in areas related to Energy, Environment and Sustainability.  The mission is to collectively identify and collaboratively tackle important global energy and environmental challenges in an integrated and holistic manner.
